TerraNova Equestrian Center Strengthens Community Roots Through Continued Partnership with Myakka City Elementary School
MYAKKA CITY, Fla., July 1, 2026—TerraNova Equestrian Center is proud to announce the continuation of its partnership with Myakka Elementary School for the third year in a row. This multifaceted collaboration, which includes weekly literacy programs and annual sponsorships, underscores TerraNova’s commitment to fostering education and community well-being in Myakka City.
The relationship began when TerraNova Equestrian Center’s Director of Equine Assisted Learning Libby Neily reached out to the school to offer equine-assisted resources. She was directed to connect with Instructional Coach and MTSS Facilitator, Megan Hennessy-Sequin, and Principal Carol Ricks and established the relationship. Since then, the collaboration has grown to facilitate multiple events for students to interact with miniature horses. As a sponsor for the 2025-2026 school year, the equestrian center was present at the school’s annual Sponsor Breakfast, a community highlight where local businesses and families gather to be honored for their support by the student body.
Central to this partnership is the "Book Buddies" program, now concluding its second full year. Every Wednesday, TerraNova staff members visit the school to facilitate reading sessions. The initiative has proven particularly effective for students who may struggle with reading confidence; the presence of TerraNova’s miniature horses provides a non-judgmental, calming environment that encourages students to practice their skills with enthusiasm. This year, the program expanded its reach to recognize and support readers who are excelling above their grade level.
"There is something special about that school, and you can’t pinpoint it until you feel it when you’re in the room," said Neily. "Being a part of this environment and seeing the students and teachers interact is incredibly inspiring. It’s a group effort from our entire staff to be present at the school, and that dedication is what truly sets TerraNova apart as an organization."
To celebrate the conclusion of the academic year, TerraNova hosted an end-of-year party on May 23rd. The event invited students to TerraNova Equestrian Center for a hands-on experience with the facility’s miniature horses. Chosen for their approachable size and gentle temperament, the "minis" allowed students to interact with horses in a way that is physically less intimidating and highly engaging.
Through the Equine Assisted Learning program, TerraNova continues to provide these services to local students, ensuring that the therapeutic and educational benefits of equine interaction remain accessible to the Myakka City community. In addition to the program, Equilibrium at TerraNova will also be partnering with Hennessy-Sequin in launching a community 4H program that will be focused on agriculture, education, and service with the miniature horse herd.
